"Don't apologize," Meredith said, "that's good. That's really, really good." At least they would be spared the difficulty — and for the girl, the pain — of a spinal injury and paralysis, things that, even with the O.R., Meredith wasn't sure they'd really be able to cope with properly at all. "You're doing really well. Just try and lie still for me, alright? Don't try to get up, you're just going to do more damage to your side here. What's your name? Can you tell me your name?" Her mind seemed clear enough, at least, but it would help to keep her focused, even if Meredith hated seeing her in pain like this. She was so young and an injury like this was incredibly painful. She just had to hope that Peter got here sooner rather than later; maybe that would help.
